An Intoxicatingly Good Read

Wicked Plants:  The Weed That Killed Lincoln’s Mother and Other Botanical Atrocities by Amy Stewart is a small but comprehensive book full of deadly, poisonous, noxious, irritating and dangerous plants, many of which may be growing in your own backyard.

Stewart’s descriptions of these botanical oddities are interesting, well-researched and often down right humorous.  The accompanying etchings and drawings are striking and give the book and old-world charm.  It’s as if you’ve stumbled upon this hidden treasure buried among the back shelves at an old book store or grandmother’s library.

Who knew there were plants that can make you slobber uncontrollably or that can burst into flame if a match is lit nearby or that shed poison daggers?  After reading this book I must admit I am looking at those ‘innocent’ plants inhabiting my garden and wondering if they are plotting to harm me!

Note:  I recieved this book from the publisher for the purpose of reviewing it.
